Rogue Village and Archerfield Walled Garden are auditioning for two performers (dance, circus or physical theatre – one male and one female) for A Christmas Fairy Trail, an exciting new outdoor production, taking place at Archerfield Walled Garden, East Lothian this winter.
Deadline for Application: Wednesday 15 November 2017, 6pm
Audition Date: Monday 20 November 2017, 1-6pm
Audition Venue: Dance Base, Grassmarket, Edinburgh, EH1 2JU
Contract Dates: Tuesday 12 December 2017 – Saturday 6 January 2018
Enter Archerfield’s mystical fairy trail and get lost in a world of fairies, elves and folklore. There is no time more magical than Christmas and New Year for the forest folk as they transform their woodland home into a shimmering, spellbinding, spectacle! Welcome to a place where wishes come true, resolutions are made and magical things happen. The elves and fairies invite you to explore their forest village and get lost in a world of bright lights, dancing forest folk and beautiful woodland. With live performers and lighting design from JMP Productions, whose recent credits include the opening of The Queensferry Crossing, The Enchanted Castle and Snowdrops by Starlight.
We are seeking two exceptional performers for the inaugural year of this family-friendly event to play fairy/elf/woodland characters moving around the trail, disappearing in/out of the undergrowth, engaging with the audience as well as delivering short pieces of narrative. We are looking for physical theatre performers rather than ‘Disney’ characters!
22 shows take place over 24 nights with performers expected to perform intermittently over 5 hours in cold Scottish winter conditions (there are no shows on Christmas Day or Boxing Day and understudies will provide two additional days off).
Applicants will be strong improvisational performers with a background in circus, dance or physical theatre, comfortable with speaking and character work. Applications from performers with experience in improv, outdoor/site specific, street shows and audience engagement are encouraged.
Contract comprises of one rehearsal day, one dress rehearsal and 20 performance days over the event period from Tuesday 12 December until Saturday 6 January (there are no shows on Christmas Day or Boxing Day). Fee is £1500 per performer. Performers will be provided food and drinks during the engagement. No accommodation or per diems are offered and you must be able to make your own way to the venue during the contract (there is a direct bus from Edinburgh).
To be considered please send both a CV and online video link of yourself performing to: email@example.com by Wednesday 15 November 2017. Suitable applicants will then be invited to audition by 8.30pm on Thursday 16 November.
